Meet 14-year-old Jade Avedisian. Jade launched her 2020 micro-sprint racing season by besting over 100 fellow-racers in the Restricted ‘A‘ Class at the 35th Annual Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout to earn a Golden Driller. At press time, the five-foot tall, 100-pound titan had gone on to win eight races in 14 starts so far this season, including the 40-lap, $20,000-to-win John Hinck Championship at Missouri‘s Sweet Springs MotorSports Complex in July. She‘s finished outside of the top five in only three events.
While growing up in Clovis, California, Avedisian was introduced to open-wheel racing by her father, Ryan, who had spent some time as a mechanic for a local sprint car team.
Avedisian‘s racing career began at age seven, competing in quarter-midgets. Throughout her time in the quarters, she earned approximately 60 feature wins. In 2015, Jade claimed three QMA National titles, two on pavement and one on dirt, becoming the only driver to ever win West, East, and Dirt National championships in the same year.
In 2017, she moved to Junior Sprints and was immediately competitive. She ended the season as the USAC Junior Sprint National champion.
The following season, Jade moved to 600cc micro-sprints, and earned a pair of wins.
Last year, the winning continued, with Avedisian earning the checkers in 13 features, including the Clay Cup Nationals and the Mark Hagopian Memorial. It was a season that also saw her earn two track championships, claiming the Restricted division titles at Lemoore Raceway and Keller Auto Raceway at Plaza Park.
This season, after clinching her Golden Driller in January, Avedisian took on the Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division.
At press time, Jade sits atop the National Winged A-Class points (with two wins) as well as the Restricted ‘A‘ Class (with six wins) and had captured the Lucas Oil NOW600 Sooner Speedweek titles in both the Restricted and A-Class.
To date, she has competed in eight different states, and is quick to credit her crew. “Everybody on our team helps make me competitive, and the cars are perfect.”
Although she states that she would be open to driving any type of race vehicle, she‘s currently hoping to break into the POWRi or USAC National midgets or sprint cars in the future.
