A Look Back At The 2020 Champions

AUTO VALUE SUPER SPRINT SERIES

The Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Super Sprint Series was hit hard by COVID-19 cancellations.

The series was only able to compete one winged sprint car race this season, at M-40 Speedway in Jones, Michigan. As a result, race winner Jimmy McCune also became the series‘ winged champion.

The series was able to compete four non-winged races, at Anderson Speedway and Lucas Oil Speedway. Tyler Roahrig won two features, while Kyle Hamilton and Bobby Santos III claimed the other two.

But it was Kody Swanson‘s consistency that earned him the 2020 AVBBSS non-winged championship.

With his two checkers, a runner-up finish, and a quick-time without the wing, as well as a fourth-place finish at M-40 with the wing, Tyler Roahrig became the 2020 AVBBSS overall champion.

BADGER MIDGET AUTO RACING ASSOCIATION (BMARA)

Chase McDermand, of Springfield, Illinois, successfully defended his 2019 Badger Midget Auto Racing Association championship to win his second consecutive title.

1 – Chase McDermand – 646
2 – Nick Baran – 596
3 – Tyler Baran – 428
4 – Jeff Zelinski – 385

6 – Ryan Zielski – 332
7 – Derek Doerr – 320
8 – Kurt Mayhew – 316
9 – Kevin Olson – 314
10 – Kyle Koch – 284

The schedule for the 84th year of the BMARA was hit hard by the pandemic, with the series only able to compete seven races.

The series‘ traditional home track, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin‘s Angell Park Speedway, was shuttered for the year by restrictions placed upon it by the Dane County authorities.

Adding to an already-tough season, the BMARA lost its longtime publicist and announcer Bryan Gapinski to cancer in October.

McDermand won five of the seven features contested in 2020 in his RMS Racing Honda-powered No. 40, with Tyler Baran and Sean Murphy claiming the other two wins.

1 – Dallas Hewitt – 1,680
2 – Matt Westfall – 1,601

BUCKEYE OUTLAW SPRINT SERIES (BOSS)

The non-winged sprint car series saw an abbreviated eight-race schedule in 2020, its 10th season.

CAPITAL REGION SPRINT CAR ASSOCIATION (CRSA)

After three consecutive years of domination by Jeff Trombley, Darryl Ruggles, of Hopewell, New York, broke through to earn the Super Gen Products CRSA Sprint title in 2020.

1 – Darryl Ruggles – 650
2 – Dana Wagner – 626
3 – Trevor Years – 617

7 – Mike VanPelt – 587
8 – Jeff Trombley – 586
9 – Josh Flint – 569
10 – Ron Greek – 551

The New York and northeast PA-based Racesaver 305 winged sprint car series was only able to contest four of its 17 scheduled events, due to COVID-19.

Ruggles took two of those wins, while Josh Flint and Cory Sparks earned the other two feature wins.

After three years at the helm, Peter and Dale Meskill have stepped down from running the series, which is owned and promoted by Mike Emhof.

They will continue to aid the series with marketing.

Although Kyle Pierce ended the year as the rookie with the highest point finish, series officials announced that – with only four races competed in 2020 – they would extend the RoY battle through the 2021 season.

CIVIL WAR SPRINT CAR SERIES

There were no Civil War Sprint Car Series events in 2020.
