GLORY DAYS: Midget Masters Fox & Vogler

Stan Fox and Rich Vogler (pictured) made names for themselves racing midget cars across the United States. But they also were infrequent combatants in Indy car competition.

Vogler enjoyed 95 USAC midget victories, while Fox picked up 19 wins with the sanctioning body.

Both had disappointing efforts during the month of May, with Fox finishing 33rd in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing and Vogler failing to qualify.

Vogler made five Indy 500 starts, with a best finish of eighth in 1989. Fox made eight Indianapolis 500 starts, with a best finish of seventh in 1987. Ironically, both earned their best Indy finishes piloting cars entered by A.J. Foyt.

Vogler was killed in a USAC sprint car crash at Salem (Ind.) Speedway on July 21, 1990. Fox died in a highway crash while racing in New Zealand in 2000.
