Sebastien Loeb claimed the 48-hour sixth stage of the Dakar Rally, while Carlos Sainz maintained the overall lead after the conclusion of Friday’s action.
Sainz led Stage 6 at the conclusion of Thursday’s run, but Loeb, who started third on Friday, surged to the front aboard his Prodrive entry. He extended his lead through the final kilometers to win the stage by two minutes and one second over Sainz, who brought his Audi home second.
While Loeb earned his second stage victory of the event and the 25th of his career, Sainz holds a 20-minute and 21-second lead over his teammate Mattias Ekstrom in the overall standings. Loeb sits third, 29 minutes and 31 seconds behind Sainz.
Adrien Van Beveren won the stage for the motorcycle contingent, while American Ricky Brabec maintained the overall lead.
