ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico — Christopher Polvoorde, alongside Bryce Menzies on the Menzies Motorsports team, won the Method Race Wheels qualification in the BFGoodrich Tires 57th SCORE Baja 1000, driving the No. 1 Mason AWD Ford Raptor.
Polvoorde completed the four-mile race course at the Nelson Ranch in the Piedras Gordas ejido in five minutes and nine seconds, securing the first starting position for this Friday’s fourth round of the 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship, aiming to win “The Granddaddy of All Off-Road Races” and also the annual title in the SCORE Trophy Truck.
Rob “The Goat” MacCachren, driving the No. 83 Mason AWD Ford Raptor McMillin Racing team, posted the second-fastest time in the SCORE Trophy Truck, with five minutes and 14 seconds. MacCachren will team up with Luke McMillin for the SCORE Baja 1000 after the duo won the overall race in both 2021 and 2022.
Andy McMillin finished third in the SCORE Trophy Trucks. He will join forces with his cousin, Dan McMillin, on the No. 23 Mason AWD Ford Raptor McMillin Racing team.
JOHNSON, A SPECIALIST BEHIND THE WHEEL
Ricky Johnson was the fastest in the SCORE Trophy Truck Legend (class for drivers aged 50 and over), driving the No. 1L Mason AWD Ford Raptor Vildosola Racing team. He clocked a time of five minutes and 21 seconds, aiming to extend his streak of 11 consecutive victories.
Johnson will team up with Gustavo Vildosola Sr. to try to secure a third consecutive championship in the SCORE TT Legend, recording the sixth-fastest overall time in the Method Race Wheels qualifying.
Rick D. Johnson finished second in the SCORE Trophy Truck Legend, driving the No. 37L Mason AWD Ford Raptor Norseman Racing team. He will team up with Rolf Helland as well as Bobby Pecoy.
THE FIRST STRIKE WAS BY DAVIS
Justin Davis claimed the pole position in the Trophy Truck Spec class, driving his No. 285 TSCO-Chevy Green Army Motorsports team, which is battling for the 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship, currently in second place in his class with 366 points.
Davis completed the four-mile race course in five minutes and 31 seconds, aiming to win his second SCORE race of 2024 this weekend. Sean Geiser of the Sendero Racing team finished second with an official time of five minutes and 35 seconds, driving the No. 241 Geiser Bros Chevrolet Silverado.
The race is being held over a technical, rugged race course of 864.13 miles around much of the Northern part of the majestic Baja California peninsula.
Class 11, Class 7SX and all Sportsman classes, will run a reduced course of 736.61 miles for this year’s BFGoodrich Tires 57th SCORE Baja 1000.
All four SCORE races are being held on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula for the ninth consecutive year.
With classes for Pro and Sportsman cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads, racers from 32 U.S. States and 18 countries have entered so far. The elapsed-time race will start at 12:15 a.m. PT on Friday (Nov. 15) for the motorcycle/quad classes followed by the start of the car/truck/UTV classes at 9 a.m. PT on Friday (Nov. 15).
While the fastest finishers are expected to finish in approximately 15 hours, all vehicles will have a 36-hour time limit from the time each starts to become an official finisher in this spectacular elapsed-time event.
