The season is winding down and championship trophies are starting to be raised, but there’s still some hot competition on tap this weekend, including the BC39 and the National Open.
Four Nights In Indy
The fifth annual Driven2SaveLives BC 39 expands to four nights of action at the quarter-mile Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Action begins Wednesday with practice and the Stoops Pursuit race. Thursday and Friday will feature complete programs with split fields, half the competitors running Thursday and the other half on Friday, with $5,000 to win each feature.
Saturday’s 39-lap finale pays $20,039 to the winner. Buddy Kofoid won last year’s event.
The National Open
The Champion Racing Oil National Open will be run for the 61st time this weekend at Pennsylvania’s Williams Grove Speedway.
Featuring the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series along with the local Pennsylvania Posse and other traveling racers from across the country, the two-night program concludes with a 40-lap, $75,000-to-win feature on Saturday night.
Lance Dewease claimed the victory last year.
NHRA Third Straight
The NHRA Countdown to the Championship continues for the third consecutive weekend, with the annual visit to World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Ill. Doug Kalitta enters the Midwest Nationals as the Top Fuel point leader after winning the first two races in the six-event playoff run.
Robert Hight leads the Funny Car class and Matt Hartford is a mere four points ahead of five-time champion Erica Enders in the Pro Stock division.
Talladega
It’s what many refer to as a “wildcard” race during the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, as the fifth race in the 10-race run to the championship takes the series to Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
William Byron has already punched his ticket to the Round of 8 and 11 other competitors will look to dodge the typical chaos at the 2.66-mile superspeedway and continue their pursuit of the championship.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races at Talladega on Saturday.
Dirt Late Models
The country’s two prominent dirt late model tours will both be in action this weekend, with the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Late Model Series visiting Ohio’s Atomic Speedway for two nights of action, including $15,000 to win on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will visit Ohio’s Raceway 7 on Friday night before heading to Pennsylvania Motor Speedway for the 35th annual Pittsburgher 100 on Saturday. The race pays $30,000 to win.
ARCA/Mod Tour
The ARCA Menards Series will visit Indiana’s Salem Speedway for the 19th race of its 20-event schedule on Saturday night. Point leader Jesse Love has won nine times this season. In addition, the ARCA Menards Series West tour will be in action on Saturday night at California’s All-American Speedway.
Also on the pavement, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will take center stage at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway, headlining a Saturday night racing card.
