What To Watch For — Oct. 27-29

Late-season championship battles are at full swing with the number of races dwindling and a chill in the late October air.

The Paper Clip

Round nine of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs takes place Sunday at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Two drivers will earn the opportunity join Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell in the Championship 4 title battle during the final race of the season Nov. 5 at Phoenix Raceway.

Sin City

The penultimate round of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series sees the Countdown to the Championship continue at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Tony Stewart Racing teammates Leah Pruett (Top Fuel) and Matt Hagan (Funny Car) lead the nitro standings, while Erica Enders looks to put a lid on her sixth Pro Stock title.

Legends of Havasu

The Ultra4 USA Racing Series headlines this weekend’s Legends of Havasu event, which takes place at Lake Havasu, Ariz. In addition to off-road racing, the event includes Formula 1 power boats, the Sand Outlaw Series and American SXS Takeover and much more.

Surfers Paradise

The penultimate weekend of competition for the Supercars Championship sees the series hold races 25 and 26 of the season on the street circuit in Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia.

National 100

The 49th running of the National 100 dirt late model race is set this weekend at East Alabama Motor Speedway. Three days of racing activity concludes with Sunday’s 100-lap event featuring the Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series. The race pays $49,000 to win.

Short Track Nationals

The 36th annual Short Track Nationals for 360 winged sprint cars is scheduled Thursday through Saturday at Texarkana 67 Speedway.

The Ralph Henson Memorial kicks thigs off on Thursday, while Saturday’s finale will pay $20,000 to win. More than 60 cars are entered.

World Short Track Championship

The eighth annual World Short Track Championship is a three-day event featuring the best weekly racers in the country. The event, hosted at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Thursday, Oct. 26 to Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, will put 10 divisions on center stage in pursuit of a purse in excess of $120,000.

California Fun

The West Coast’s best IMCA racers will converge on Merced Speedway for two nights of racing during the Steitz Memorial this Friday and Saturday at the third-mile dirt track. Modifieds, SportMods, stock cars and hobby stocks will be on the card.
