With the month of August lurking around the corner, racing continues to heat up. Among the headlining series to watch for, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series has a two-race tilt in New York, while NASCAR makes its second stop of the season at Richmond (Va.) Raceway.
Here’s what to watch for.
Indiana Sprint Week
The 36th annual NOS Energy Drink Indiana Sprint Week for the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series resumes Wednesday night at the Terre Haute Action Track and continues through Saturday with consecutive stops at Terre Haute, Lincoln Park Speedway, Bloomington Speedway and Tri-State Speedway.

Midwest Movers
The All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car series continues its Midwest invasion with four consecutive events, opening Wednesday at Benton Speedway in Missouri and wrapping up on Saturday night with the tour’s annual appearance at Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway. The four-race run also stops at Lake Ozark Speedway and I-70 Motorsports Park.
The Midwest swing kicked off with a trio of races this past weekend, with Bill Balog getting a pair of victories.
Xtreme Midgets
Events in West Virginia and Ohio make up a three-race weekend for the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series.
It opens Friday at West Virginia’s Ohio Valley Speedway and continues Saturday at Atomic Speedway in Ohio, with a Sunday night stop at Brushcreek Motorsports Park in the Buckeye state. Cannon McIntosh leads Jade Avedisian by 67 points after 12 events.
Fairbury Fun
The legendary Prairie Dirt Classic will see the best late model drivers take on the quarter-mile Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway in one of the biggest events on the World of Outlaws Case Construction Late Model Series schedule.
After preliminary events on Friday, Saturday’s 100-lap event will pay $50,000 to the winner.
Richmond NASCAR
The 22nd stop on the NASCAR Cup Series calendar takes the series back to Richmond (Va.) Raceway for the second time this season.
Kyle Larson picked up the victory on the first Sunday in April at the three-quarter-mile short track.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will also be in action at Richmond, racing on Saturday afternoon.
Western Swing
The final stop of the three-race Western Swing for the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series will take the series to Wine Country for the annual visit to California’s Sonoma Raceway.
Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock Motorcycle will headline the action.
Empire State
The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will invade New York’s Weedsport Speedway for the Empire State Challenge, which will feature two nights of action Friday and Saturday at the three-eighths-mile race track.
Saturday’s finale will pay $20,000 to win. David Gravel and Brad Sweet enter the weekend tied on top of the series standings after 43 races.
Asphalt Aces
The biggest event on the CARS Tour schedule, the Throwback 276, takes the late model stock and pro late models to historic Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.
