A racing extravaganza in Indianapolis and the most prestigious race in sprint car racing are among the events on tap this weekend.
Here’s what to watch for.
Knoxville Nationals
The 62nd annual NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals is the gathering of the clans for sprint car racing, as fans come from around the world for longest-running annual event in winged sprint car racing.
More than 100 cars and drivers are entered for four nights of racing that will culminate with Saturday night’s 50-lap, $185,000-to-win main event.
Circle City
The Circle City will be the scene of hot and heavy road course racing as the NASCAR Cup Series, NTT IndyCar Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series will take on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course during the annual Brickyard weekend at the historic track.
The IndyCar Series and Xfinity Series share the card on Saturday afternoon, while the Cup Series takes center stage the following afternoon.
Xtreme Midgets PA
The Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series will pay first-time visits to Pennsylvania and New Jersey with five nights of racing Aug. 8-12.
Short tracks will be the focus as the series opens at Clyde Martin’s Speedway and continues with three consecutive evenings in the Keystone state at Action Track USA, Linda’s Speedway and Path Valley Speedway. The series concludes Saturday at Bridgeport (N.J.) Motorsports Park.
North-South 100
The best dirt late model racers in the land will take on Kentucky’s Florence Speedway for three nights of action during the 31st annual North/South 100.
The event is sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, with Saturday’s 100-lap main event paying $75,000-to-win.
Indy Satellite
Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park will host some of stock car racing’s best short-track racers on Friday night prior to Brickyard weekend action at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The ARCA Menards Series East and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will share the card.
Heartland Finale
The penultimate round of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series regular season takes the tour to Heartland Motorsports Park in Kansas for the final time.
The track ran its first NHRA national event in 1989. The Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock classes will all be in action.
Two Wheels
Jett Lawrence will look to put his 16-moto winning streak on the line when the summer Pro Motocross Championship continues at New York’s Unadilla National motocross circuit.
Meanwhile, the American Flat Track racers head to Washington for the Castle Rock TT.
