What To Watch For — April 28-30

With May knocking on April’s door, this weekend’s racing action is packed full of racing across the country, from Delaware to California. IndyCar springs back into action after a week off, while another four-wide nationals event is in store for the NHRA. 

Take a look at what to watch for this weekend:

Monster Mile

The Monster Mile is next on the schedule for the NASCAR Cup Series. The one-mile concrete oval at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway will host NASCAR’s senior circuit for the 105th time on Sunday. Chase Elliott won last year’s race. The NASCAR Xfinity Series and the ARCA Menards East division will also race at Dover this weekend.

Alabama Breeze

The fourth event on the NTT IndyCar Series calendar takes the series to Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park. Marcus Ericsson, who won the season opener at St. Petersburg holds the point lead heading to the twisty road course in what will be the final tuneup for the series before the month of May at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

4Wide Again

For the second time in as many events, NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series competitors will race four-wide. Event five of the campaign at North Carolina’s zMAX Dragway is the second straight race in which four lanes of competitors will speed down the strip simultaneously. Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Matt Hagan (Funny Car) and Dallas Glenn (Pro Stock) were the big winners at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway two weeks ago.

Supercross

The 15th event of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross campaign takes the tour to Nashville for a Saturday afternoon tilt at the home of the Tennessee Titans — Nissan Stadium. A winner of seven of the 14, events, Eli Tomac carries an 11-point lead to the Volunteer state.

Elsewhere

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series is scheduled for events at Tri-City Speedway in Illinois and Tri-State Speedway in Indiana. The Lucas Oil MLRA late models will have a two-race stand at Missouri’s Lake Ozark Speedway and the NARC sprint cars will visit California’s Antioch Speedway.

A large collection of events have already been rained out or canceled for this weekend.
