What 2 Watch For — Oct. 13-15

Mid-October is upon us and with it come the playoffs for NASCAR and the NHRA and historic races such as the 52nd running of the Winchester 400.

52nd Winchester 400

One of the nation’s most historic races, the Winchester 400, celebrates its 52nd running on Sunday afternoon at Indiana’s Winchester Speedway.

The event doubles as the ninth race of the inaugural season for the ASA STARS National Tour.

Reigning Winchester 400 winner Stephen Nasse headlines an entry list that includes 2017 winner Noah Gragson and ASA points leader Ty Majeski.

Jayhawk Jaunt

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season winds toward its conclusion with a pair of races in Kansas.

On Friday, the series makes its second stop of the season at 81 Speedway, while Lakeside Speedway hosts the nomadic winged sprint car series on Saturday. Brad Sweet carries a 68-point lead over David Gravel into the weekend.

Get Xtreme

It’s the final weekend of the season for the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series with three races on tap to decide the championship.

Action begins Friday at Oklahoma’s Port City Raceway, leading into two days of competition at I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma City. 

Jade Avedisian has an 11-point lead over Cannon McIntosh, with Gavin Miller and Zach Daum also in contention.

Sin City

Race seven of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs takes the series to Las Vegas Motor Speedway with eight drivers still alive for the series championship, led by six-time winner William Byron, who won the March race there. The NASCAR Xfinity Series is in action at the 1.5-mile track on Saturday.

Race For Hope

The country’s best IMCA modified drivers will journey to Arkansas for the seventh annual Race For Hope 71 at Batesville Motor Speedway.

Full programs with features will be run on Thursday and Friday night with the top-18 in combined points locked into Saturday’s 71-lap main event.

The Race For Hope 71 will pay $10,000 to the lucky winner.

IRP Double

Fans of open-wheel race cars on asphalt may want to visit Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on Saturday as the USAC Silver Crown Series and the 500 SprintCar Tour will wrap up their seasons at the .586-mile track.

Logan Seavey enters the Silver Crown finale with a 16-point lead over Kody Swanson.

NHRA

Round four of the NHRA Countdown to the Championship is the annual NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series visit to the Texas Motorplex.

Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel), Bob Tasca III (Funny Car), Erica Enders (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) lead the standings heading into the weekend.

Petit Le Mans

The final race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is the 10-hour endurance race, the Petit Le Mans, at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

Champions will be determined in all five classes, including the GTP category.

Orange Blossom Special

The best late model stock car drivers in the nation will descend upon Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C., for Saturday night’s Puryear Tanklines Orange Blossom Shoot Out.

The 150-lap event offers $17,500 to the winner, with $5,000 for second place.
