Power Rankings: Prock On Top, Thornton Falls Out

It’s time for a new edition of SPEED SPORT Power Rankings. Who will be on top this week?

1. Austin Prock

Austin Prock blasted to his sixth NHRA Funny Car victory of the season as the Countdown to the Championship opened at Pennsylvania’s Maple Grove Raceway. Prock was also the No. 1 qualifier for the 11th time this season. Last Week: 4

2. Bobby Pierce

Bobby Pierce has won 32 dirt late model features this season, including the recent World 100 at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway. Last Week: 1

3. Aaron Stanfield

Aaron Stanfield raced to his fifth NHRA Pro Stock triumph of the season Sunday at Maple Grove Raceway and grabbed the point lead with five races remaining. Last Week: 8

4. Buddy Kofoid

Buddy Kofoid swept World of Outlaws sprint car races at Bakersfield and Merced Speedways in his native California. Kofoid has won four of the past five World of Outlaws features. Last Week: Not Ranked

5. Rico Abreu

Rico Abreu has won 10 winged sprint car features this season, including Port Royal Speedway’s Tuscarora 50 and the Sage Fruit Nationals at Skagit Speedway. Last Week: 2

6. Carson Macedo

Carson Macedo has been the most consistent World of Outlaws sprint car racer of the last month and has moved to within 86 markers of point leader David Gravel. Last Week: 3

7. Connor Zilisch

Connor Zilisch claimed victory in his NASCAR Xfinity Series  debut Saturday at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) Int’l. Zilisch also won the previous day’s ARCA race. He’s also won the Rolex 24 At Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring this year. Last Week: Not Ranked.

8. Matt Sheppard

Big-block modified racer Matt Sheppard claimed the Fonda 200 and earned a $53,000 top prize. Last Week: Not Ranked

9. Tyler Courtney

Tyler Courtney banked $50,000 for winning the Commonwealth Clash at Pennsylvania’s Lernerville Speedway. Courtney has won 11 winged 410 sprint car features this season and the 360 Knoxville Nationals. Last Week: Not Ranked.

10. Chase Sexton

Chase Sexton, who won the Pro Motocross Championship, finished second in Saturday’s SuperMotocross event and remains in championship contention. Last Week: 5

On The Rise: Dominant Funny Car driver Austin Prock has moved to the top of the SPEED SPORT power rankings.

Free Falling: Justin Grant, Ricky Thornton Jr., Jonathan Davenport and Joey Logano dropped from the rankings.

One To Watch: Christopher Bell holds the NASCAR Cup Series point lead heading into the cutoff race for the Round of 12 in the playoffs at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.
