Power Rankings: Pierce On Fire As Courtney Drops

It’s time for a new edition of SPEED SPORT Power Rankings. Who will be on top this week?

1. Bobby Pierce

With a four-victory week, World of Outlaws Late Model Series regular Bobby Pierce jumped to the top of the power rankings. Pierce, who has now won 20 features this season, started his week by winning a FloRacing Night in America main event and followed it up with three consecutive World of Outlaws triumphs. Last Week: 8

2. Max Verstappen

Formula 1 point leader Max Verstappen finished second in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and continues to hold a commanding point lead in the world driving championship entering this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix. Verstappen has won seven of 12 races this season. Last Week: 2

3. Logan Seavey

Logan Seavey had a frustrating week during Mid-America Midget Week for the USAC NOS Energy Midget National Championship, but he’s won 10 national sprint car features and leads the standings. Last Week: 1

4. Ricky Thornton Jr.

Ricky Thornton Jr. has won 19 dirt late model features this season, but is transitioning to a new ride with Koehler Motorsports. Thornton continues to lead the Lucas Oil Dirt Car Series standings. Last Week: 3

5. Tyler Erb

Traveling dirt late model racer Tyler Erb secured the DIRTcar Summer Nationals championship with his 11th victory of the series Sunday at Ohio’s Wayne County Speedway. He has 14 overall victories this season. Last Week: 10.

6. Daison Pursley

USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship point leader Daison Pursley returned to the power rankings after winning a pair of Mid-America Midget Week features. Pursley has five USAC national midget victories this year and has also won in USAC sprint car and Silver Crown competition and picked up a winged sprint car triumph as well. Last Week: Not Ranked.

7. Stewart Friesen

Stewart Friesen won three modified features during a four-day period culminating with a win in Sunday’s Hall of Fame 100 Super DIRTcar Series event at Weedsport (N.Y.) Speedway. Friesen has won 15 features this season, including one in an Empire Super Sprints car. Last Week: Not Ranked.

8. Jett Lawrence

Jett Lawrence, who had won four of the first five Pro Motocross races of the season and the Monster Energy AMA Supercross title, is out for the season after suffering a thumb injury in practice. Last Week: 4

9. Austin Prock

With three NHRA Funny Car victories this season, Austin Prock has a commanding lead in the class standings as the series takes a two-week break before resuming July 19-21 at Pacific Raceways near Seattle. Last Week: 5

10. Ryan Blaney

Reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney won his second race of the year Sunday at Pocono Raceway. It was also his second victory in the past five races. Last Week: Not Ranked

On The Rise: With four consecutive feature victories, Bobby Pierce rocketed to the top of the SPEED SPORT power rankings. Daison Pursley, Stewart Friesen and Ryan Blaney also entered the countdown this week.

Free Falling: Sprint car drivers Tyler Courtney and Anthony Macri and reigning NHRA Top Fuel champion Doug Kalitta dropped from the top 10 in the power rankings.

One To Watch: Two-time IndyCar Series champion Will Power appears poised for a late-season challenge for a third championship after winning Sunday at Iowa Speedway.
