Power Rankings: Major Shakeup As Dixon Falls Out, Prock Rises

It’s time for a new edition of SPEED SPORT Power Rankings. Who will be on top this week?

1. Ricky Thornton Jr.

Ricky Thornton Jr. remains at the top of the power rankings for a third consecutive week. Thornton grabbed a $25,000 preliminary night victory during the Dirt Late Model Dream at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway. It was his 16th late model victory of the season. Thornton leads the Lucas Oil Late Model Series standings. Last Week: 1

2. Max Verstappen

Neither wet, nor dry conditions could keep three-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen from victory lane in Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. Verstappen has won six of the nine races this season. Last Week: 5

3. Jett Lawrence

Jett Lawrence bounced back from a rough week to win his second Pro Motocross Championship event in three tries this summer. Lawrence earned eight victories en route to his first Monster Energy AMA Supercross championship earlier this year. Last Week: 7

4. Daison Pursley

Daison Pursley is one of the hottest drivers in the country. Pursley won a pair of USAC midget features en route to the Indiana Midget Week crown. He also leads the standings in the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget Series. He owns three USAC midget wins, one USAC sprint car triumph and a winged sprint car victory at Huset’s Speedway.

5. Brad Sweet

Brad Sweet scored a pair of top-five finishes in High Limit Racing competition at I-70 Speedway and extended his point lead to 65 markers oer Tyler Courtney. Last Week: 4

6. Kyle Larson

Kyle Larson turned in a dominant performance in grabbing his third NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season Sunday at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway. Larson, who also has an Xfinity Series victory and two High Limit sprint car wins, regained the Cup Series point lead despite having missed the Coca-Cola 600.

7. David Gravel

World of Outlaws point leader David Gravel, who has eight victories this season, saw his point lead dwindle to a mere 10 markers over Carson Macedo as the series heads to Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway next weekend. Last Week: 3

8. Jonathan Davenport

Jonathan Davenport captured his third Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway in dominant fashion. It was his 10th Eldora triumph. It was the sixth win of the season for Davenport, who also won last month’s Show-Me 100 at Lucas Oil Speedway.

9. Austin Prock

NHRA Funny Car point leader Austin Prock swept the weekend at Bristol (Tenn.) Dragway, wrapping it up with his second national event triumph of the season. Prock also won the PRO Superstar Shootout in February.

10. Will Power

Will Power ended a two-year dry spell with the 42nd victory of his NTT IndyCar Series career. The two-time series champion also took the point lead.

On The Rise: Daison Pursley rocketed into the top five after claiming the Indiana Midget Week title. He’s won in three different types of cars this season. Kyle Larson, Jonathan Davenport, Austin Prock and Will Power also entered the fray.

Free Falling: Seven-time IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon dropped from the rankings after a tough day at Road America. Denny Hamlin, Doug Kalitta, Corey Heim and Kody Swanson also fell from the top 10.

One To Watch: Sheldon Haudenschild grabbed his seventh World of Outlaws victory this season and appears poised for many more.
