Power Rankings: Lawrence Signals His Move, Bell Falls

It’s time for a new edition of SPEED SPORT Power Rankings. Who will be on top this week?

1. Jett Lawrence

Jett Lawrence, who won eight races en route to the Monster Energy AMA Supercross championship, moved to the top of the power rankings with his fourth victory in five events in the Pro Motocross Championship. Last Week: 3

2. Ricky Thornton Jr.

Ricky Thornton Jr. went winless this week but leads the dirt late model world with 19 triumphs this season, including 11 in the Lucas Oil Late Model Series, where he is the point leader. Last Week: 1

3. Max Verstappen

Three-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen was involved in a late-race dust-up with challenger Lando Norris and wound up finishing fifth in Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring. Verstappen has won seven of the 11 races this season. Last Week: 2

4. Tyler Courtney

Winged sprint car racer Tyler Courtney kept rolling. One week after he won three races, Courtney earned a High Limit Racing triumph at Missouri’s Lucas Oil Speedway. He’s won nine overall features this season. Last Week: 7

5. Austin Prock

With three NHRA Funny Car victories this season, Austin Prock was the No. 1 qualifier this weekend at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, and lost in the semifinals, keeping a firm grip on the point lead. Last Week: 4

6. Doug Kalitta

Defending NHRA Top Fuel champion Doug Kalitta extended his point lead by racing into the final round at Summit Motorsports Equipment Park in Norwalk, Ohio, losing to Antron Brown in the final. Kalitta has three victories this season. Last Week: 6

7. Corey Day

A winner of the Jim Raper Dirt Cup the previous weekend, Corey Day raced from 15th starting spot to pick up a High Limit Racing victory at Missouri’s Lake Ozark Speedway. It was his seventh win of the season. Last Week: 10

8. Logan Seavey

Rolling to his eighth USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series triumph of the season, Logan Seavey reentered the top-10 in the power rankings. Last Week: Not Ranked.

9. Alex Palou

Two-time NTT IndyCar Series champion Alex Palou grabbed his second victory of the season at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. He also returned to the series point lead. Last Week: 9

10. Danny Dietrich

Danny Dietrich topped the first two races of the 34th annual Pennsylvania Speedweek, earning his eighth and ninth feature victories of the season. Last Week: Not Ranked

On The Rise: USAC sprint car point leader Logan Seavey and Pennsylvania sprint car racer Danny Dietrich entered the power rankings. With a full week of PA Speedweek action ahead, Dietrich could be poised to be a big mover next week.

Free Falling: With a crash Sunday at Nashville, Christopher Bell fell out of the top 10 in the power rankings, while Daison Pursley also dropped out of this week’s standings.

One To Watch: Tyler Erb has won seven DIRTcar Summer Nationals features through the first three weeks of the series, which has a busy slate over the Fourth of July weekend.
