Power Rankings: Here Comes Larson, Abreu Drops Out

It’s time for a new edition of SPEED SPORT Power Rankings. Who will be on top this week?

1. Carson Macedo

Carson Macedo won the recent National Open at Pennsylvania’s Williams Grove Speedway. It was his 10th victory of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign. Macedo trails David Gravel by 76 points in the race for the series title. Last Week: 1

2. Bobby Pierce

Bobby Pierce has won 34 dirt late model races this season. Among his victories this fall have been the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals and the World 100 at Eldora Speedway. Last Week: 2

3. Kyle Larson

Kyle Larson punched his ticket into the round of 8 in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs with a victory Sunday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL. It was Larson’s sixth victory of the season. He also won the Knoxville Nationals sprint car race. Last Week: Not Ranked

4. Brad Sweet

Brad Sweet won three races in a row during the final week of High Limit Racing competition and secured the series championship Saturday Texas Motor Speedway. Sweet won 10 High Limit features this year. Last Week: Not Ranked

5. Austin Prock

A winner of seven NHRA Funny Car races this season, Austin Prock was the top qualifier and lost in the semifinals Sunday at the Texas Motorplex. He maintains a commanding point lead with two races remaining. Last Week: 4

6. Logan Seavey

A winner in all three USAC national touring series this season, Logan Seavey grabbed his 14th sprint car victory of the season in Saturday night’s Fall Nationals at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway. Last Week: 10

7. Stewart Friesen

Stewart Friesen won the Billy Whittaker 200 Super DIRTcar Series race at Oswego (N.Y.) Speedway for a record-tying sixth time Saturday at the five-eighths-mile track. Last Week: Not Ranked

8. Buddy Kofoid

Buddy Kofoid continued his late season prowess in World of Outlaws sprint car competition with a third-place run at Lincoln Speedway. He’s won five features in the past six weeks. Last Week: 6

9. Dallas Glenn

Dallas Glenn, who has won five NHRA Pro Stock races this season, raced to the semifinals at the Texas Motorplex and extended his point lead to 54 with two races to go.  Last Week: 5

10. Justin Ashley

Justin Ashley charged to his fourth NHRA Top Fuel triumph of the season and grabbed the point lead Sunday at the Texas Motorplex. Last Week: Not Ranked

On The Rise: NASCAR Cup Series point leader Kyle Larson and his brother in law, High Limit Racing champion Brad Sweet charged into the top five in the power rankings.

Free Falling: Matt Hirschman, Rico Abreu, Cannon McIntosh and Jonathan Davenport left the rankings.
