BUDAPEST, Hungary – Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel, who originally finished second in Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix, has been disqualified after officials were unable to take the required fuel sample from his car after the race.
Technical regulars require that a one liter sample of fuel must be taken from the car at any time during the event, however only .3 liters of fuel were retrieved from Vettel’s car after the race.
As a result, Lewis Hamilton has been elevated to second-place, with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr. inheriting the final spot on the podium.
The rest of the top 10 behind Vettel also inherit a place each, with Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen promoted into the final points paying position in 10th.
