Ricciardo Sidelined Following Zandvoort Practice Crash

AlphaTauri driver Daniel Ricciardo will be unable to race in Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix after sustaining a break to a metacarpal on his left hand during a practice crash on Friday.

Just under 10 minutes into the second free practice session at Zandvoort, the Australian hit the barrier in turn three in an attempt to avoid hitting McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who had crashed ahead of him mere moments earlier and was blocking Ricciardo’s line through the corner.

When exiting the car, Ricciardo was gripping his left hand, indicating injury.

He was immediately transported to the local hospital for further examination.

AlphaTauri released a statement with an update on his condition on Friday afternoon.

“An X-ray confirmed he sustained a break to a metacarpal on his left hand, and this injury will not allow him to continue his duties, so he will be replaced by the team’s reserve driver Liam Lawson for the remainder of this weekend. The team wishes him all the best for the quickest possible recovery,” the statement read.
