Daniel Ricciardo will replace Nyck de Vries at Scuderia AlphaTauri for the remainder of the Formula 1 season, starting at the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix.
Ricciardo is on loan from Oracle Red Bull Racing, where he was a third driver aiding with testing and sim work.
“I’m very pleased to welcome Daniel back into the team,” said Franz Tost, Scuderia AlphaTauri Team Principal. “There’s no doubt about his driving skill, and he already knows many of us, so his integration will be easy and straight-forward. The team will also profit a lot from his experience, as he is an eight-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner.
“I would like to thank Nyck for his valuable contribution during his time with Scuderia AlphaTauri, and I wish him all the best for the future.”
“I’m stoked to be back on track with the Red Bull family,” Ricciardo said.
De Vries was in the midst of his rookie F-1 season, where he had a best finish of 12th at the Monacco Grand Prix in May. The 2020-’21 Formula E champion was one of two drivers to not score points this season thus far.
