ZANDVOORT, Netherlands – Days after announcing he planed to retire at the end of the current Formula 1 season, Alfa Romeo driver Kimi Raikkonen has been sidelined after testing positive for COVID-19.
The news came Saturday after he participated in Friday’s two practice sessions at Circuit Zandvoort. As a result, Raikkonen will miss the remainder of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend while he isolates in a nearby hotel. Team officials indicated he is displaying no symptoms.
Robert Kubica, one of the team’s reserve drivers, will take over Raikkonen’s car and compete during Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix. It will be his first Grand Prix start since 2019.
