Perfect Saturday For Verstappen, Wins Pole & Sprint At Red Bull Ring

Fresh off a victory in the Formula 1 Sprint Race, Max Verstappen snagged the top spot for Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix.

Verstappen edged McLaren’s Lando Norris by 0.404 seconds in Q3 to secure pole.

“The qualifying went really well,” Verstappen said. “We tried to adjust the car a little bit after the things we learned this morning [in the Sprint]. I think it worked well.

“Of course, the track is a bit warmer than yesterday so it made it all a bit trickier to drive. But the car felt a lot better for me today, I could really attack the corners a bit more and it was just… Every run was just on point and it was very enjoyable out there.”

Behind the front two, Mercedes’ George Russell locked down third position ahead of Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz. Fresh off a season-best third-place finish last week in the Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton qualified fifth.

Charles Leclerc slotted in sixth after an off-track shunt on his final lap in the session.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri placed seventh on the grid while Red Bull’s Sergio Perez qualified eighth.

Haas F-1’s Nico Hulkenberg qualified ninth in the session, however, he’s being investigated for two pit lane incidents. Teammate Kevin Magnussen starts 12th on Sunday. Esteban Ocon rounded out the top 10.

Earlier in the day, Verstappen held on to win the Sprint Race at Red Bull Ring after early battles with both McLaren drivers made way for smooth sailing shortly after the start.

Norris briefly took the lead away from Verstappen in the beginning of the race. However, Verstappen prevailed shortly after to seal the top spot.

Piastri got the best of his teammate en route to the runner-up position, negating Norris to third. Russell and Sainz completed the top five.
