LKY SUNZ Seeking Spot On F-1 Grid

With Formula 1 interested in taking as many as two new entries on the grid in time for the 2025 season, another possible new team has emerged known as LKY SUNZ.

LKY is derived from Lucky, which team officials describe as a “nod to the Asian heritage of the team,” SUNZ represents the sun.

Having secured support from the U.S.-based Legends Advocates Sports Group and Asian investors the team plans to submit its entry later this month, with the project being headed by Benjamin Durand, who is the team’s co-founder along with Andrew Pyrah (chief commercial officer) and Paul Fleming (chairman).

The team’s focused on bringing more awareness to new entertainment and youth culture.

“We are excited to see our investors share our vision of fusing youth culture and racing to create a team that will disrupt F-1,” said Durand. “The sport’s popularity has grown exponentially and every current stakeholder in the sport has been responsible for that, but our guiding principle is to bring something different into the sport to appeal to new audiences.

“By being the only team operating outside the traditional F-1 corridors and developing bespoke program to attract talent from underrepresented communities, we can bring a diversity of thought yet to be seen in F-1.

“We of course aim to be competitive on the track but we also commit to entertaining fans off the track,” Durand continued. “To support our plans, we have already brought onboard an impressive team of motorsport executives, music and entertainment industry experts and creatives who will help bring this vision to life.”

It’s not the only group hoping to secure a bid on the Formula 1 grid beginning in 2025.

General Motors in the form of its Cadillac brand and team owner Michael Andretti, while former F-1 team executive Craig Pollack is heading up a group known as Formula Equal, which intends to create a work force featuring an equal number of male and female employees.
