MELBOURNE, Australia — Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc set the fastest time during Friday’s second practice session for the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park.
Leclerc turned the famed circuit in 1:18.978, edging world champion Max Verstappen of Oracle Red Bull by .245 seconds.
Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate, Carlos Sainz, was third quick.
Fernando Alonso was fourth for Alpine with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez rounding out the top five.
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton could only muster the 13th fastest lap for Mercedes, two spots behind his teammate George Russell.
Kevin Magnussen was 16th for Haas F1, with Mich Schumacher 18th in his return after a brutal crash during qualifying in Saudi Arabia.
