McLaren driver Lando Norris did something no other Formula 1 driver managed to do this season – he scored points in each of the first 10 races.
“I’m doing 100 percent better this year than I did last year,” he said. “I had moments last year where I was doing as well as I have this year. But more inconsistently. I would have a good one, but then followed that up with a not so strong one or some silly mistakes.
“The main thing I have done well this year is on the consistency side of it. I do not think there been any missed opportunities”
Norris, now in his third season in F-1, has been consistently outperforming his teammate – seven-time F-1 winner Daniel Ricciardo. The latter, who joined the team this year, has been struggling to adapt his driving style to the unique demands of the McLaren chassis. Norris, who says the 2021 McLaren differs radically from the 2020 version, has also had to adapt his driving style. He has, however, done that with more success than Ricciardo.
“I always believe that there is potential to do better in myself,” Norris said. “I don’t take it for granted. So I’m continuing to try and improve and try to learn. A lot of it is down to work, spending more time with my engineers and the people around me to improve on things and do a better job every weekend. To review everything I can. It’s really just hard work. Not the most fun or interesting thing, but it is the one which makes the biggest difference.”
