MELBOURNE, Australia — Fernando Alonso turned the fastest lap during Friday’s second rain-shortened practice session for the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit.
Alonso, driving for Aston Martin, topped the charts during the 20 minutes of practice prior to the rain in the second session, turning a best lap of one minute and 18.887 seconds.
Ferrari wheelman Charles Leclerc was second quick, while point leader and two-time world champion Max Verstappen was third.
Mercedes driver George Russell was fourth as four different teams were represented in the top four. Leclerc’s teammate, Carlos Sainz, rounded out the top five.
Verstappen was quickest during the first practice session.
