Two-time Formula One champion and Alpine F1 driver Fernando Alonso suffered a fractured jaw after being involved in an accident Thursday while cycling Thursday in Switzerland.
Doctors diagnosed Alonso with the jaw fracture after he was taken to a local hospital, where he has since undergone a corrective surgery to repair the injury.
Alpine F1 revealed in a Twitter statement that Alonso will remain hospitalized for 48 hours while under observation. The injury is not expected to prevent Alonso from competing in the first Formula One event of the season on March 28 at the Bahrain Int’l Circuit.
