MONTREAL — With a time of 1:15:810, Fernando Alonso was fastest in the second Formula 1 practice session of the day at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve for the Canadian Grand Prix. He turned 25 laps in his Aston Martin Aramco Mercedes.
George Russell was second fastest, 0.463 seconds off the pace of Alonso. Lance Stroll was third, Charles Leclerc was fourth and Daniel Ricciardo was fifth. Kevin Magnussen, Lewis Hamilton, Yuki Tsunoda, Alexander Albon and Sergio Perez rounded out the top 10.
Max Verstappen turned just four laps in the session as he had a mechanical issue. He had the 18th fastest time among the 20 drivers on the grid.Â
McLaren driver Lando Norris was fastest in the opening practice earlier Friday.
Teams battled wet weather and overcast conditions throughout both sessions to kick off the second race weekend of the season in North America.
The third practice is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday with qualifying to follow at 4 p.m.
