CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Logitech G has confirmed a partnership with third-year NASCAR Cup Series driver and eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series team owner William Byron.
The 2017 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion and 22-year-old Charlotte, N.C., native will serve as an official ambassador for Logitech G simulation racing, including the Logitech G Challenge, Logitech G’s products and other associated Logitech technologies.
In addition, Logitech G will serve as the title sponsor of William Byron eSports, appearing as a primary sponsor on driver Nick Ottinger’s virtual No. 25 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 during the 20-race eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series season.
The partnership is one that has roots going all the way back to Byron’s earliest showings of interest in racing.
“Every young driver is a gamer at heart, for me it started when I was a kid racing in my bedroom using Logitech G’s steering wheels,” said Byron. “For me, playing games in my room and then going on to compete on the iRacing circuit played a key role in becoming the racer I am today. It continues to evolve into an integral part of the work we do today.”
Byron attended his first NASCAR race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in 2006, and quickly dove into the iRacing simulation service as a regular participant soon after.
“Starting my own team and working with Logitech G to make it happen is a dream come true. This is a great way for me to give back to a community that helped to launch my own career,” noted Byron. “Logitech G is the perfect partner, as we both share the same passion for racing and innovation. Most importantly we’re both invested in the future of eracing. Together we want to inspire others to follow their passion for racing.”
“It was clear from the start that we both want to see the sport of eracing grow and encourage more people to race,” added Vincent Borel, Logitech G general manager and vice president of simulation. “Today, sim racing democratizes motorsports like never before. We are thrilled to partner with William and his iRacing team and look forward to working together on building and growing the sport of eracing.”
Byron and Ottinger unveiled the paint scheme for the virtual No. 25 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 on Monday, and the 14-time eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series race winner (second all-time) is eager to get started with his new ride during Tuesday night’s season opener.
“I’m happy to showcase our No. 25 Logitech G Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. She looks fast and clean, just like Logitech’s products,” said Ottinger. “It’s truly a great privilege to represent Logitect G, William (Byron, team owner) and everyone involved with William Byron eSports. Having Logitech onboard with us for the 2020 eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series campaign is huge not just for us, but for eSports in general, I feel like.
“Much like William, I started (sim racing) on a Logitech wheel, the Driving Force GT,” Ottinger added. “They’ve made such a reliable and durable product that I’ve used the wheel I currently have for seven years now. It’s a great company and one I’m proud to help carry the banner for in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series.”
