Complicating this are the high costs of today’s technologies, costs that most privateers can’t afford to pay. Given that both Grand-Am and ALMS are based largely – particularly in terms of their prototype entries – on the privateers, the dilemma is how to get the fans to watch something that is not quite “major league,” but rather “triple A baseball.”

Although discussion about rules and regulations are basically boring, in this case they will surely determine not only the future of the sport, but whether it survives or not in that future; something which will require not just great vision, but also more than a little luck.

At least, though, the 2014 season will kick off on the right foot, with both Daytona and Sebring once again becoming part of the same championship, which is no small deal in itself.
