SMITH: The Off Season

As last year ended, it was time to get started on the 2020 season.

The first thing was to get in contact with my current partners for 2020. It’s also my goal to add new partners every year. Over the winter I was able to add SKE Chassis, TruBank, Velocita-USA, Speedbear Fasteners and Clem’s Helmets as partners to my outlaw kart team.

After I met with or talked to all my partners, I started putting my new kart design together. Along the way there were some changes that I had to adjust to, but everything was going smooth. I also decided that at the last race of English Creek Speedway, I wanted to try something new for next year.

It took some persuasion, but I got my dad on-board. I decided I wanted to sell my kart and 250cc engine.  This year, I will be running a SKE chassis and I am excited to say that I will be running an Open/500cc this year, too.

Once I got everything sold, it was about time to head to Indianapolis for PRI. PRI was a successful trip with attending marketing seminars, meeting new people, seeing friends that I have met at previous PRI trips and meeting up with some of my partners that have booths there.

After PRI, I tried on my safety equipment and realized that I had outgrown everything except my Bell helmet. I needed to order new safety equipment from Velocita-USA, Simpson and Ultra-Shield. Safety comes first! Next, was to make arrangements to go to North Carolina and pick up my SKE kart and Adams Performance engine. After getting back from the trip, my dad and I mounted my seat so that I could go to Indianapolis over spring break and get it fitted with an insert.

Once I get back from Indianapolis, we are going to put the engine on and adjust the pedals. Once I have my kart ready to race, I will practice some shifting and then it will be practice night at English Creek Speedway.
