VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. — All the phoniness that NASCAR has been displaying for many years is going to bite them in the butt.

Last Saturday’s Sprint Cup race at Richmond Int’l Raceway brought out the many things that are wrong with NASCAR.

First of which is the Chase. There is so much pressure to make the “playoffs” that chicanery and dubious decisions were the highlight of the race.

All the Chase does is wipe out anyone’s chances outside of the elite dozen to further themselves. There are 10 races in the Chase, a lot of opportunities for advancement.

The Clint Bowyer “spin” was a phony, as a victory lane interview.

Not many top 10 cars spin out so conveniently by themselves at such an interesting time. There wasn’t a tire failure on his No. 15. He spun harmlessly all by himself.

Yet, Mike Helton, Robin Pemberton and John Darby all believe that no corruption existed. This is from the people who several years ago fined Carl Long $200,000 for a slightly oversized used engine.

Also, Brian Vickers “let” Joey Logano pass him on the last lap to make Logano a top 10 and not a wild card entry in the Chase. This put Martin Truex Jr. into the second wild card spot.

This restart cost Ryan Newman, who did a terrific job, busting his butt to make the Chase. He would have won the race if that restart hadn’t occurred. These shenanigans also knocked Jeff Gordon out of the Chase.
