VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. — Tony Stewart is still working out the aches and pains from his sprint car wreck at Southern Iowa Speedway Aug 5.
Soon he will have a giant headache. In fact, more than one.
Stewart and partner Gene Haas are expanding their team to the NASCAR maximum of four cars. Stewart should probably seek Bayer or Tylenol as sponsors.
Kevin Harvick is no day at the beach. Yes, he is a winning driver, but he doesn’t work and play well with others. In addition to the dust ups he has with other drivers, Harvick growls at his pit crew more than any other driver.
When he owned his own teams, Harvick was notorious for yelling at his pit crew for not being perfect. Assignments were often switched.
When he departs Richard Childress racing after the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, some will quietly say, “Don’t let the door hit your butt on the way out.”
Danica Patrick is a moneymaker, but not for her racing. She’s the most marketable NASCAR driver besides Dale Earnhardt Jr., but she seems to be either crashing or whining all the time.
But the cherry on top will be Kurt Busch. No one doubts his ability to drive a Cup car. He has made the single car Furniture Row ream viable, but if he isn’t nerfing with a rival driver, his mouth is getting him into trouble. He has been removed from two very high-profile teams, but not for his driving.
The Stewart-Haas Racing Monday morning meetings will be eventful starting next year. Stewart will probably do more sprint car racing just to relieve the tension.
