LOS ANGELES — Irwindale Speedway CEO Jim Cohan spoke to media members at the last oval race and expressed satisfaction with results this season at Irwindale Event Center.
Cohan said the track will have a similar twice-a-month oval track schedule in 2014 running from April through October. Rip Michels, the track’s all-time feature winner with 65 wins, said a limited schedule of 10 races allows racers to have a family life and live within a racing budget. It also keeps fan support steady in this economy. The oval track opened in 1999 and closed in 2012 when the original lease holder filed bankruptcy. It reopened in 2013 with Cohan’s 211 Entertainment firm as the new lease holder. Nu-Way Industries owns the property. The quarter-mile drag-strip operation continues unchanged and allows the public to test and tune their street cars on Thursday evenings.
