DODGE CITY, Kan. — The father and son duo of Johnny Greaves and C.J. Greaves along with Rob MacCachren were the big winners as the Traxxas TORC Off Road Series wrapped up its inaugural event before a standing room only crowd on Saturday night at Dodge City Raceway Park.
After youngster C.J. Greaves drove to the Pro Light victory to kick off the night and then raced from the tail of the Pro Two Wheel Drive field to claim third behind MacCachren and Bryce Menzies, Johnny Greaves finished off the big weekend on the six-tenths-mile “Baja” style short course with a triumph in the Pro Four Wheel Drive division.
After finishing fourth in Friday night’s Red Bull Pro Four Wheel Drive feature event, Greaves battled into the lead from his third starting position on the opening round and led the entire 18-lap virtually unchallenged.
“I was kinda following in my kid’s footsteps after his win and coming from last for third in Pro Twos, it was great to get this win,” Greaves commented afterward.
While Greaves had the field covered, Adrian Cenni rebounded from an early incident and was dicing with Scott Douglas for a podium position when contact sent Douglas upside down. Cenni ultimately was forced pitside while Douglas recovered for runner-up honors for the second night in a row with Rob MacCachren filling out the podium. Friday night winner Ricky Johnson encountered mechanical difficulties midway through and did not finish the event.
While MacCachren started the Amsoil Two Wheel Drive main event fifth after running second to Bryce Menzies in Friday’s feature, it was third-starter Chad Hord gunning into the lead on the opening circuit and leading the way until MacCachren battled by to take command at the halfway point after pressing for the point for several rounds.
MacCachren went on to secure the win in the 18-lapper ahead of Menzies, who took second away from Hord on the tenth round, while C.J. Greaves rallied from the tail to take the show position.
The younger Greaves kicked off the evening with a convincing victory in the 16-lap Traxxas Pro Lights feature event.
Starting fifth after running second to Doug Mittag in Friday’s feature, Greaves needed little more than one lap to take the lead away from front row outside starter Shawn Morris.
Greaves led the rest of the way in front of Morris with Mittag taking the show position.
