One of the country’s two predominant short-course, off-road racing series will not sanction any races this season.
TORC: The Off-Road Championship issued a statement on Friday afternoon that informed the racing world of its plans.
“Unfortunately, TORC: The Off-Road Championship will not hold events in 2018. We will, however, continue to evaluate future opportunities for TORC. We remain grateful to our drivers, partners, and fans for their support and wish everyone a great racing season,” read the statement that appeared on the series’ website and on social media.
TORC was founded by off-road racer and former motocross racer Ricky Johnson in 2009. Johnson sold what was known as the Traxxas TORC Series to The Armory in 2013 and the series became sanctioned by USAC. Mountain Sports took over management of the series, which was a staple at Crandon (Wis.) Int’l Raceway, in 2015.
Johnny Greaves is the defending TORC Pro 4 champion.
TORC has sanctioned short-course off-road racing throughout Middle America, while the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series controls West Coast off-road racing.
