MOORESVILLE, N.C. – There will be a new face in the JR Motorsports stable at Daytona Int’l Speedway this summer.
NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series regular Sheldon Creed, the reigning ARCA Menards Series champion, has been selected to drive the No. 8 Chevrolet Accessories/Drivers Edge Development Camaro in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Subway Firecracker 250 on July 5.
A 21-year-old native of Alpine, Calif., Creed joins JRM regulars Justin Allgaier, Michael Annett and Noah Gragson to complete the team’s four-car lineup for the 100-lap event.
Creed will be making his third career Xfinity Series start and first with JR Motorsports. His previous two starts came in 2017 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Road America.
“This opportunity presented itself through the Drivers Edge Development program and the relationship between JRM and GMS,” Creed said. “I couldn’t be more thrilled at the chance to run an Xfinity car at Daytona. It’s one of those races where absolutely anything can happen, and it’s going to be fun being part of the action in JRM’s No. 8 car.”
Creed, who currently competes full-time in NASCAR’s Gander Outdoors Truck Series for GMS Racing, was one of seven drivers named to Drivers Edge Development’s inaugural class earlier this year.
The program, developed jointly by JRM, GMS, and presented by Chevrolet, aims to groom the next generation of racing superstars through a tiered competition pipeline coupled with comprehensive off-track education.
Creed becomes the seventh driver to wheel the No. 8 Chevrolet for JRM in 2019, joining Jeb Burton, Chase Elliott, Brett Moffitt, Ryan Preece, Zane Smith and Ryan Truex.
To date, the No. 8 Xfinity Series team has recorded two top-five and seven top-10 finishes through the first 10 races of the season.
