FORT WORTH, Texas – Martin Truex Jr. and Furniture Row Racing made official was everyone already knew on Friday at Texas Motor Speedway.
Truex will drive Furniture Row’s No. 78 Chevrolet beginning in 2014, replacing departing driver Kurt Busch. Truex has signed a multi-year deal to drive the No. 78 after spending the last four years driving the No. 56 Toyota for Michael Waltrip Racing.
“I’m definitely excited to be here today,” Truex said during Friday’s press conference. “This is a big deal for me, and I’m very, very excited about the opportunity to drive for Furniture Row. I’ve really been impressed with this organization and what they’ve accomplished this year being a single-car team.”
A few weeks ago Truex was told by MWR he wouldn’t return in 2014 after sponsor NAPA Auto Parts left the team as a result of the Richmond cheating scandal.
“As unlucky as I got at Richmond, I got just as lucky when this deal turned up,” Truex said.
MWR released a statement wishing Truex good luck with Furniture Row in 2014.
Truex has two career Sprint Cup victories, including one earlier this year at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway. Truex has 30 career top fives and 88 top 10s in 294 Sprint Cup races.
