SANDUSKY, Ohio – Rico Abreu is set to return to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for a chance at victory at historic Eldora Speedway.
Abreu revealed to Motorsport.com Friday that he would return to ThorSport Racing, for whom he drove during his lone NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2016, to contest the Eldora Dirt Derby at the Rossburg, Ohio, speedplant on July 19.
His truck will carry sponsorship from Curb Records and Bud Haefele will be Abreu’s crew chief. USAC Triple Crown winner and ThorSport Racing Competition Manager Tracy Hines will be Abreu’s spotter for the race.
Abreu earned his career-best Truck Series finish last year at Eldora Speedway, finishing third behind dirt aces Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell.
After failing to secure a NASCAR ride this season, Abreu has returned to his dirt roots and has been competing at tracks across the United States. He won a USAC National Midget Series race in a car prepared by Keith Kunz on June 11 at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway, as well as a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series race at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz., on April 8.
