HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – Niece Motorsports announced Monday that the team will field the No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado for sprint car driver Mark Smith during the inaugural NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race on the Daytona Int’l Speedway road course.
Coming off a successful 15th-place finish with Niece Motorsports at the Eldora Dirt Derby in 2019, Smith has enjoyed a historic winged 360 sprint car campaign so far, earning 14 wins and building a comfortable point lead in the USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour standings.
“It’s every racer’s dream to run at Daytona. I’m grateful for Niece Motorsports and my sponsors for allowing me to check off this life-changing experience from my bucket list,” Smith said. “I’m thrilled to build off of the chemistry we had at Eldora last year, and fight to get Niece Motorsports the finish its exceptional equipment is capable of at the Daytona road course.”
Owned by United States Marine Corps veteran Al Niece, Niece Motorsports has quickly become a force in the competitive Gander Trucks ranks.
In just its fourth year of full-time competition, the team has earned three victories and earned a second-place finish in the 2019 standings with driver Ross Chastain.
“We are excited for the challenge that the Daytona road course presents, and are proud to once again partner with Mark Smith and his impeccable racing pedigree,” said Niece Motorsports general manager Cody Efaw. “We’re confident he’ll represent our organization with a strong performance during this historic event.”
The Aug. 16 event will mark the first time that the Gander Trucks has taken on the 3.56-mile, 12-turn Daytona road course, which annually plays host to the crown-jewel Rolex 24 endurance classic for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
