BRISTOL, Tenn. – Kasey Kahne drove away from the field in the final 40 laps to win Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“This is a big win. I love racing for Hendrick Motorsports,” Kahne said. “This whole team was flawless again today.”

It didn’t look like Kahne was going to have anything for Jeff Gordon or Matt Kenseth, who were leading the field at lap 391. One lap later things changed, as Gordon blew a tire and shot up the track in the middle of the corner, taking out Kenseth in the process.

That briefly gave third-place Kahne the lead, but he gave up the top spot to come down pit road for fresh tires. Brad Keselowski, who opted not to pit, inherited the lead while Kahne restarted fourth.

It didn’t take long for Kahne to catch Keselowski and the two quickly settled into a battle for the lead. Kahne was able to briefly take the lead in lapped traffic on lap 446, but two laps later Keselowski used the same tactic to re-take the lead.

On lap 454 the final caution flag of the race waved as Jimmie Johnson blew a tire and slammed the wall. During the restart on lap 459 Keselowski spun his tires, allowing Kahne and Kyle Busch to overtake him for the top two spots.

Once out front Kahne methodically pulled away from the field, eventually beating Busch to the checkers by 1.7 seconds.
