FORT WORTH, Texas – Carl Edwards grabbed the pole for Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway Friday afternoon.

Edwards put his No. 99 Aflac Ford on the pole with a 27.535-second lap around the 1.5-mile oval in 196.113 mph. He’ll share the front row with fellow Ford driver Brad Keselowski.

Edwards gave full credit to his crew for the fast lap on Friday.

“That’s Jimmy Fennig (crew chief), all the guys at the shop and the engine department,” Edwards said. “Turns one and two I didn’t think were that good. I got in there and the car had a ton of grip and I came off the corner and the card did a huge wiggle out there in the sun.

“All I could think of was how everybody had been beaten by Jimmie Johnson and those guys in three and four, so I tried to get through three and four really well and it worked.”

Championship rivals Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth will both start Sunday’s race in the top 10. Johnson qualified third in his No. 48 Chevrolet, while Kenseth put the No. 20 Toyota sixth on the starting grid. Johnson is the defending race winner.

Paul Menard qualified fourth, followed by Kyle Busch, Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Marcos Ambrose.
