BRISTOL, Tenn. – Denny Hamlin will attempt to score his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory of the season Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway, and he’ll do it from the pole.

Hamlin earned the pole for the IRWIN Tools Night Race Friday at the historic .533-mile oval, getting around the track in 14.878 seconds at 128.969 mph. It is his fourth pole of the 2013 season.

“I’m proud of this whole FedEx Ground team. We had a good day today,” said Hamlin, who is the defending event winner at Bristol. “We had pretty good practices and obviously a good pole effort never hurts. That’ll give us the number one pit selection, we’ll use that up and hopefully have a good 500 laps around here.”

Kurt Busch qualified second for Furniture Row Racing, clocking in at 14.901 seconds and 128.770 mph. Carl Edwards was the fastest Ford in third, followed by Brian Vickers and Matt Kenseth.

Kyle Busch, who led the second practice session earlier in the day on Friday, crashed on his qualifying lap and will start 43rd.

Mike Bliss was the only driver who failed to qualify for Saturday’s race.
