Van Gisbergen Edges Larson For Xfinity Chicago Pole

Shane van Gisbergen outpaced NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson for pole position ahead of Saturday’s Xfinity Series The Loop 110 at the Chicago Street Course.

The Kaulig Racing driver had a fastest speed of 89.448mph, enough to edge Larson by 0.013 seconds around the temporary 2.2-mile street circuit.

JR Motorsports’ Connor Mosack wheeled his No. 88 Chevrolet to third-place on the grid ahead of Ty Gibbs and teammate Sam Mayer.

John Hunter Nemechek, fresh off a win at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, qualified sixth. Parker Kligerman starts seventh ahead of Jesse Love, Chandler Smith and last year’s winner Cole Custer.

Justin Allgaier did not post a time during qualifying after a wreck in practice forced the No. 7 JR Motorsports team to switch to a backup car. Allgaier starts 36th out of 38 cars.Â
