Rafa Matos Set For NASCAR Xfinity Debut At Watkins Glen

Rafa Matos will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut with the Peterson Racing Group at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) Int’l, he announced on his Instagram page. Driving the No. 87 entry, he’ll have backing from the Navy Seal Foundation and 3Dimensional Services Group.

A former IndyCar driver, Matos has raced in the TA2 series regularly since 2017. He earned his 24th series victory at Road America (Wisc.) in June. A Brazilian native, Matos has two TA2 titles (2018 and 2021) and is the winningest driver in series history. Three of his victories have come at Watkins Glen.

“I proudly announce that I will be racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Watkins Glen. A goal that I had been thinking about for some time and now I had this great opportunity,” Matos said. “Extremely honored to represent the Navy Seals Foundation, who fight for our freedom day and night. Very happy with the opportunity and looking forward to deliver a great result for the whole team. Bring it on!”

In conjunction with Jordan Anderson Racing, Peterson Racing Group has fielded the No. 32 entry in four road course races this year for Austin Green. They scored a top five at Sonoma (Calif) Raceway and haven’t finished outside the top 15.

The Mission 200 at Watkins Glen is on Saturday, Sept. 14.Â
