Sam Mayer earned his first career NASCAR Xfinity Series pole at Charlotte Motor Speedway for Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 300.
Mayer ran two tenths quicker than JR Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier to earn the pole with a 30.018 lap time.Â
“It’s just about experience, like the first and second stage, you’re really going to see what the track does and kind of go from there,” Mayer said. “Obviously I don’t know what the heck’s going on out there. I can watch past races all I want, but I’ll never know how it feels until I experience it. That’s what the first two stages are going to be, and then final stage, we’re going to go on kill mode and see what we can do.”
Driving for B.J. McLeod Motorsports, Ryan Preece will roll off the grid in third, followed by the Chevrolet of Josh Berry and the Toyota of Brandon Jones rounding out the top-five.Â
