Kyle Larson breezed to the top of the timesheets during NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying at Sonoma Raceway on Saturday afternoon, setting a fast lap of 78.387 seconds (91.393 mph).
Larson, who typically drives the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports entry in the Cup Series, is one of several drivers pulling double duty in Sonoma. He will be piloting the No. 17 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet during the inaugural Xfinity Series race at the 1.99-mile road course.
JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier will join Larson on the front row, after turning a fast lap of 79.106 seconds (90.562 mph) in his No. 7 Chevrolet. Richard Childress Racing’s Sheldon Creed was third, while full-time Cup Series drivers Aric Almirola and A.J. Allmendinger completed the top five.
Sam Mayer, Ty Gibbs, Daniel Hemric, John Hunter Nemechek and Sammy Smith rounded out the top 10.
