Kligerman, Big Machine Racing Handed L1-Level Penalty

Parker Kligerman and the No. 48 Big Machine Racing team have been assessed an L1-level penalty following the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Michigan Int’l Speedway on Saturday.

The No. 48 Chevrolet violated sections 14.4.10.A of the NASCAR Rule Book, which deals with modifications to the rear spoiler, which were found in pre-race inspection.

Stated in section 10.5.2.2.A&B of the Rule Book, L1-level penalties include team-sourced parts not meeting the NASCAR Rule Book, failure to meet minimum weight post-race or failure to submit and receive approval of parts.

Kligerman and the team were docked 20 driver and owner points while crew chief Patrick Donahue was fined $25,000.

After finishing 11th in Saturday’s Cabo Wabo 250, Kligerman was 36 points above the cutline. However, the penalty has dropped the 34-year-old to only 16 markers ahead with four races remaining in the regular season. 12 drivers make the cut for the Xfinity Series Playoffs.
