NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Joey Gase was fined $5,000 on Wednesday after throwing his rear bumper at Dawsom Cram during last Saturday’s race at Richmond (Va.) Raceway.
NASCAR deemed it as a safety violation, which falls under Sections 8.8.8K of the NASCAR Rule Book, which states: “A safety violation may be imposed for any action or omission by a Competitor or vehicle that creates an unsafe environment or poses a threat to the safety of the Competitors, as determined by NASCAR.”
Gase, driver of the No. 35 Joey Gase Motorsports Chevrolet, got spun by Cram during the race, which sent Gase’s race car into the wall on lap 173. In response, Gase ripped his damaged bumper off his race car, proceeding to throw it at Cram’s race car under caution.
