CONCORD, N.C. — Ty Gibbs won the pole for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series BetMGM 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He nailed a lap of 30.475 seconds (177.194 mph) around the 1.5-mile tri-oval.
A Cup Series regular, Gibbs is making his second start of the season but his first with the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 team. He finished 24th at Circuit of The Americas driving the No. 19 Toyota GR Supra in March. Aric Almirola was previously scheduled to do the race, but Joe Gibbs Racing made a driver change this week.
Kyle Busch qualified outside the front row, making a one-off Xfinity start for Richard Childress Racing.
Chandler Smith, Jesse Love and Jeb Burton took spots three, four and five, respectively.
Jade Buford (Mike Harmon Racing) and Akinori Ogata (Joey Gase Racing) failed to qualify for the 200-lapper.
