Last week’s NASCAR Xfinity Series winner Ty Gibbs was quickest in qualifying on Saturday morning at Watkins Glen Int’l Speedway, turning a fast lap of 70.549 seconds (125.019 mph).
Gibbs, who is in the midst of his rookie season in the Cup Series, will start from pole position during the Shriners Children’s 200 on Saturday afternoon, wheeling the No. 19 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing.
He will be joined by fellow Cup Series competitor Alex Bowman on the front row.
Bowman’s fastest lap at the 2.428-mile road course was 70.718 seconds (124.721 mph) in the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. The Shriners Children’s 200 will mark Bowman’s first start in the Xfinity Series since he finished runner-up at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course last July.
JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier, Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer and JRM’s Sam Mayer filed into the top five.
Daniel Hemric, Josh Berry, Kyle Busch, Sammy Smith and Riley Herbst completed the top 10.
The full Xfinity Series field will take the green at 3:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday.
